UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, seeks to build a pool of potential
candidates to work as interpreters/translators from
Arabic/Kurdish/Farsi/Pashto/Urdu to Bulgarian and/or English for
Participatory Assessment exercises within the Age, Gender and
Diversity mainstreaming process. Participatory assessment is a
process of building partnerships with refugee women and men of all
ages and backgrounds by promoting meaningful participation through
structured dialogue. Participatory assessment includes holding
separate discussions with women, girls, boys, and men, including
adolescents, in order to gather accurate information on the
specific protection risks they face and the underlying causes, to
understand their capacities, and to hear their proposed

UNHCR is seeking to create a pool of interpreters who are dynamic and proactive team players, with a strong interest to enhance the accountability to affected populations work of UNHCR towards improving the lives of asylum-seekers and refugees in Bulgaria.
The selected interpreters will work closely with the UNHCR team and will contribute to the UNHCR’s strategic directions in the area of protection and integration of refugees in Bulgaria.
Duties and responsibilities
• Provides simultaneous or consecutive interpretation from the said languages as per the AGD Participatory Assessment methodology.
• Translates related materials from the respective language (Arabic, Kurdish, Farsi, Pashto or Urdu) to Bulgarian/English and/or vice versa.
• Responds to queries relating to the area of responsibility.
