As a Senior Checkmk DevOps Engineer, you will work closely with
development and operations teams to optimize and maintain multiple
Checkmk environments – with the goal of ensuring reliable and
efficient monitoring. You will implement automation, enhance
monitoring, and leverage both Bash and Python scripting to improve
system performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Your daily routine would include:
Performing administrative server tasks such as installations,
deployments, configurations, upgrades, security patching, and
maintenance in PROD and non-PROD environments, as well as the
integration and de-integration of monitoring agents;
Analyzing and resolving reported monitoring issues across all
supported environments and/or services using our ticketing system
(ServiceNow);
Handling tickets and external requests via ServiceNow mail or
similar intake channels;
Monitoring system/service health including diagnosis and root cause
analysis using Checkmk, log analysis, troubleshooting, and
resolving issues within defined SLAs;
Planning and coordinating changes, upgrades, and new services to
ensure stable operations;
Developing scripts to automate routine operational tasks (e.g.
system checks, Git hooks for various scripts across multiple
environments);
Planning and designing new complex monitoring solutions in
collaboration with customers and service managers.
You’re a great fit for us if you bring:
At least 3 years of relevant experience with monitoring systems
like Checkmk in enterprise environments: maintenance, support, and
deployment of Checkmk environments in production and test systems
or comparable monitoring tools;
Experience in creating custom Checkmk plugins to improve system
monitoring;
Experience as a Linux/Unix system administrator in an enterprise
setting;
Experience with Linux/Unix automation technologies and system
management tools such as SALT or Ansible, and version control
systems like GitHub or Atlassian Bitbucket;
Experience in provisioning, operating, and maintaining Linux
servers (virtual and physical), including OS deployment and patch
management;
Experience with Bash and/or Python scripting for automation,
reporting, and system monitoring improvements;
Ability to identify and fix errors, thoroughly document processes,
and continuously improve system operations;;
Experience working in Kanban and Scrum-oriented environments;
Experience in requirement analysis and communication with internal
and external customers, including writing user stories and creating
Jira tasks based on their input;
A university degree in IT, telecommunications, or a related field,
or at least 3 years of equivalent professional experience;
Fluent English skills, both written and spoken.
Nice-to-haves:
Experience with container technologies such as Docker, OpenShift,
or Kubernetes; Experience in web development using Python, Django,
or similar;
Experience in handling SSL certificates;
Familiarity with cloud environments like Microsoft Azure, Amazon
Web Services (AWS), or Exoscale;
Agile working with an operational backlog in a technological
environment;
Experience with on-call duty (OCD);
Not required, but a big plus: ability to communicate in German.
