If you have found a new job despite the crisis and now you are about to negotiate your salary - the following information may be useful for you!

The labor market analysis show that some business sectors have not changed much in comparison with the past year, while the worse situation in other led to wage freezing.

And this fact of course means much harder salary negotiations.

And regardless that now it is not the time for gaining such high salary or social benefits as the previous 8-9 months, you still can reach the maximum payment if you know how to bargain with your employer.

The things you need at most in this situation are tact, finesse and a little bit of the following strategies:
  • Define the price of your labor and competences
In the beginning you should do some research work for the salary levels of the job positions and industries you are interested in. Do not disregard the city you are situated in. Check the websites and all informal channels that can provide that kind of information. But remember, during the interview it is better not to cite your sources in order to avoid any conflicts with the interviewer.

  • Take the initiative and control the negotiations
In “normal” circumstances employers start speaking about salary after making their choice. Unfortunately many of candidates are being asked about their desired or expected payments during the first interview. The best answer is pointing an amount “from-to” and giving the opportunity for flexible negotiations.

  • Ask for salary actualization
If the managers disagree with the amount you expect, it’s better to ask if they will actualize it in a few months (for example 6) on the basis of any measurable indicators as achieved results, realized sales, etc. And such a deal will give you time to fulfill the targets.

  • Check if employer envisages any social, nonmaterial benefits
Money is not everything. Even more - some nonmaterial bonuses may be much more valuable – for example additional paid holiday, flexible working time, opportunity for working at home, etc.

  • Ask questions and be initiative
Many employers prefer not to hurry but most of the candidates want to receive higher salary than the initially announced. First of all, if you are not satisfied of the amount, you may try to understand to what extent the employer is willing to negotiate. You can say the employer that considering the requirements and obligations you think you can hope for higher payment. And then wait to see what will happen. In most cases companies have their backup for similar situations. It is quite possible the door to be opened for you.
